I disabled all updates. Actual results: No effect still hits the CPU at 40% Expected results: Expect the CPU to be around 5% or less while idle or doing background work.
Does it happen started in safe mode? WIth just released version 15?

I had a similar issue on MacOS X. Additionally, Thunderbird could not be killed.
Forgot to add that I have not encountered the issue with TB15 yet.
See in Tools->Activity manager whether TB is indexing some messages.
