Steps to reproduce:

used thunderbird10.0.7esr


Actual results:

cannot view mail contents in thunderbird16 after using thunderbird10.0.7esr

how can I go back to thunderbird15
from thunderbird10.0.7esr
I cannot vie mail contents in thunderbird16 anymore

after reading thunderbird will not be continued
I switched to thunderbird-esr
thunderbird-esr has problems when using multiple languages

switching from thunderbird to thunderbird-esr was no problem


Expected results:

thunderbird16 should be compatible with thunderbird10.7esr

macssam, what this bug needs is clear steps to reproduce that a developer could use to demonstrate this. Many of us switch between a wide variety of versions (including 10 ESR) all of the time with no problems. I just tried this again between TB 16 and TB 10 ESR and had no issues.

So it's not that we don't care, it's that we are not convinced this is an issue beyond your local profile. But please help us out by narrowing down the set of conditions that causes this to occur.

as mentioned before I switched from thunderbird to thunderbirdESR
because I read that thunderbird was completed 
and will not be developed any further
thunderbirdESR as issues when using more than one spell checker language
it keep jumping from one spell check language to the other
very annoying during typing mails
I would like to go back from thunderbirdESR to thunderbird
many mails which were originally made under thunderbird are empty now
how can I retrieve all my mails with thunderbird

1.- thunderbirdESR to thunderbird and vis versa not compatible
2.- spell checking issue

Joe: Is this the issue that you alluded to in your forum? If so, is there another BMO report on this? If this is a common problem, then I really think we need to better understand this prior to TB 17

macssam: It is not true that Thunderbird is not being developed any further, it is just that Mozilla has reduced their paid staff. Joe and I (and many others) are not affected by this. But what is true is that releases will slow down to more like once a year, which we think is preferable to our users anyway. We are currently getting ready for a stable Thunderbird 17 which will also be Thunderbird 17 ESR.

Since I've been looking at bug 790912, I'm getting more familiar with possible issues introduced by pluggable stores circa TB 12.

macssam, I assume that "cannot view mail contents" means that you can see the message listed with other messages in the thread pane, but when you click on the message what you see has incorrect metadata (subject, From) as well as a missing or invalid body. Is that correct?

Are you using IMAP folders or POP3 (or are these local folders with copied messages)?

many thanks for all your replies
when I click on "sent mails" which has been done under normal thunderbird
(after installing and removing thunderbirdESR and installing normal thunderbird)
all these "sent mails" completely empty

the next issue is the unstable spell checker in thunderbirdESR 
thats my reason for going back to normal thunderbird
because of the empty mail issue I'm on thunderbirdESR now

normally i use "eudora" when such issues come up
but this time "eudora" could not bring back my empty mails

I like thunderbird and tell everybody to use it
because it's easy for me to go from mac to pc
I'm glad that thunderbird is being developed further ...
