Steps to reproduce:

Tried to send a mail using an SMTP server which rejected the connection (due to a missing VPN connection).


Actual results:

Thunderbird showed an error message (as expected), then closed the message window and saved the message in the "sent mail" folder of my IMAP server.


Expected results:

Thunderbird should have kept the message window open, so that I can fix the problem and try again. Saving it as "sent" is very confusing, as the message has not in fact been sent.
