Perhaps add a simple enchancement so that when in the URL field when you hit
ctrl left or ctrl right the cursur skips to the next / or the the next . etc...
IE does this. Netscape earlier versions operate the same way as mozilla (they
go all the way to the beginning or the end)
When you hit ctrl + shift + left or right it will highlight the entire URL.
Maybe could change this so that it only highlights by section of the URL.

1.Described above
2.
3.

This is UI design for now.. Once we decide what we want to do, the keyboard nav
people can do it.

As a first approximation, I'd say ctrl+left and ctrl+right should stop after
each character from "/?=.&+, " (maybe with a few more punctuation characters
added).
I'm not sure what to do with consecutive stop characters. IE never stops
between consecutive stop characters, which works well for most URLs. IE's
behavior is only annoying when I want to chop off the random part at the end of
http://www.slashdot.org/?=tn32hb94, because it doesn't stop anywhere
inside ".org/?=". That's probably just my fault for using a bad random-URL
format, though.
Summary: Use ctrl left and right/ control shift + arrows better in URL field → ctrl+[shift]+left/right in location bar should stop more often

I think this is actually a duplicate of bug 16352, which should be resummarized
to include keyboard navigation and deletion as well as selection. Zach, what
say you?
