Steps: 1. Launch the stub installer 2. Select options 3. Change all of the fields in the options 4. Select back 5. Select options again Expected: The values I changed in the options menu should still be seen from step #3. Actual: The values shown are the default. The values I changed to are not seen in any field.
Version: 17 Branch → Trunk
That is intentional. Some people will go back and expect the values to reset to default. Others will expect them to be saved. For those people wanting to customize going back doesn't provide any additional options and they can just click install from the options page to install with those options. Adding a couple of people from UX to get their take on what I just wrote.
I was just about to file a bug on "stub installer adds desktop icon even if the option was unchecked", but happened to run through the install again and spotted this issue being the cause. I think this may confuse some people; I've seen lots of other installers that have options on another page that one can drill into and return from without resetting options - so it was a surprise to find they reset here. If we intentionally want the options reset, please can we use something clearer than "Back" for the button caption - ie something like "Back (Use Default Options)" (I'm sure UX can think of something good for this one).
To be clearer, can we either: 1) Continue resetting options but make this clearer through a copy change. 2) Stop resetting options; and if needs be provide a "Reset" button on the options page. I would personally prefer #2 :-)
Depends on: 799172
The one caveat that I want UX to be aware of is that everytime we add another capability no matter how small to the stub we will be increasing its size and they will add up. IMO it would be best to go with less rather than more.

The option for a back button has been removed in bug 799172... this is now wontfix.
