Could try the basic troubleshooting steps, please:
1) Safe mode: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode
2) New profile: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles
Does it fix your issue with the location bar history?

Both helped. The problem was with the add-on "2.3.1 Delicious Bookmarks".
Thanks a lot!
Yep, some users reported this add-on is broken with FF16. In addition, its support seems to be erratic...

Delicious Bookmarks has been updated to 2.3.4, so I guess the issue is (likely) fixed.
