Build ID: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.8; rv:17.0) Gecko/17.0 Firefox/17.0 Firefox currently adds an unnecessary "Downloads complete" notification to the notification center. This notification servers no purpose and does also not work if clicked upon (bug Bug 785897). Users end up with pointless notifications. Note that Safari does not add any "download complete" notification.

Downloads completed is the main use case for notifications from a browser to an end user I would think. It shouldn't be hard to make that button work to bring you either to the downloaded file location, or back to FF's downloads manager I would think.

I can reproduce. I get the banner for "Downloads Complete" but no "Downloads Complete" under the Notification Center pane.

With XUL Notifications, no info is added to the Notification Center. (NC support has been removed in favor of XUL Notifications.) This bug should be marked as RESO INCOMPLETE/INVALID.

This bug was about the old NC implementation which was ripped out in favor of XUL notifications. Bug 852648 introduced NC as a notification provider for newer versions of OS X, i.e. they replace the XUL notifications where NC is available. Please file new bugs for any issues that arise with the new implementation (in Firefox 28 Nightly since at least today), and add Bug 852648 as dependancy. Thanks!
