description:
message filters for a 'movemail' account are not imported from 4.x profile. all
the mail and folders have been imported correctly but the filters do not seem to
be imported. also, cannot manually use File|Import -> Settings, netscape 4.x not
visible as a program to import settings from.

mailrule file is correctly copied over from the old profile, however the
ui shows it as empty.

Looks like a possible duplicate of bug 77211.  Someone on mailnews should make
that call.

i think they are imported but they don't show in the mail filters dialog unless
you change the type of account to "pop3" or "imap".

to put it differently :
create a pop account, 
declare some filters on it, 
convert this pop account into a movemail account (exit, edit prefs.js, start)
the filter is hidden !
convert back to type="pop3" (exit, edit, start)
the filter is back !!!

My experience is a little different -
environment: mozilla 0.9.5, RedHat 7.1
desc:
A movemail account was converted from NS 4.76, no filters came with it.  I can't
see any way to change it to POP or anything else.  I can't add filters, either.
 When I bring up the "filters" dialog, the drop-down at the top is empty, and
the "Add" button simply doesn't do anything.

I use movemail because I need mail locally, for performance and offline usage,
and my incoming mail arrives at a university site that doesn't support POP for
security reasons.  So, I just grab the whole raw mail file and move it with ssh
to my local system, and read it from here. using movemail.  If there was a way
to convert it to a POP account, I suppose I could set up a POP server locally
and use that.

AS comment number 5 points out, not only are filters not imported, but it is
impossible to create them. For me this is a show-stopper. I won't use mozilla
under  linux until this is fixed.

I did convert a Netscape 4 profile to Mozilla (or Mozilla did it). The filter
rules do work correctly but in Edit!Message Filters the account does not show up
in the combo box. I can edit the rules file manually.

In Mozilla 1.1 I had the same problem that I couldn't create filters
because the UI didn't offer me my Mail Account for selecting.

In 1.2.1 this works fine, I created a filter and it works.

So this is fixed for me.

(I didn't test it with an existing mailrule file, but this should work too ...)

sorry for the spam.  making bugzilla reflect reality as I'm not working on these bugs.  filter on FOOBARCHEESE to remove these in bulk.
