User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:16.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/16.0 Build ID: 20121024073032 Steps to reproduce: Received a message via IMAPS with an image (959KB) attached. Client: Thunderbird 16.0.2 on Windows 7 64bit Server: Dovecot 2.0.19 on Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS 32bit Actual results: Only parts of the image were downloaded/shown. Over half of the image is garbage. Using other IMAP clients there is no issue showing the full image. Expected results: Download/show the full image without data corruption.
This might be 806760
(In reply to Ludovic Hirlimann [:Usul] from comment #1) > This might be bug 806760 Tim, do you find this is fixed in version 17?

I am having this problem (still) in the latest editions of Thunderbird. 1) I know how to reproduce it, or at least how to increase its odds of occurance. This problem happens when you have multiple sessions of Thunderbird running on different computers. Try having 10 computers all running Thunderbird for the same IMAP account on the same network, for example (I have 3 that all display the same accounts, and this is happening pretty often now.) What seems to happen is that the client *thinks* the attachment is downloaded when it is only partially downloaded. 2) Even if this were not to be fixed fully, there is a QUICK FIX that ought to be implemented right away. There needs to be an option to "re-download attachment" that would go out and fetch the attachment from the server FRESH. It is really silly that the "fix" for this involves digging through the file structure to delete index files, so that the client will be forced to download its stuff all over again. It's not an issue of the attachment never reaching the IMAP server.

The typical workaround right now for this bug is something like ... navigate to C:\Users\[user name]\Appdata\Thunderbird\Profiles\y2jgwfz5.default\ImapMail\imap.googlemail.com\INBOX.sbd ... and to delete any *.MSF files that might correspond to the folders containing the malfunctioning attachments. Of course that pathname will vary depending on whether a custom location has been selected, the user name, etc... and if the user makes a mistake and deletes the data files instead of the MSF it will not work so smoothly. It would be pleasant if I didn't have to instruct people how to dig through their file structure and delete files to get their email to display an attachment properly.

Comment 3 suggests Andrew' sissue is a server problem. Closing Tim's bug because we do not have enough information from him.
