Steps to reproduce:

Bug 710056 and its duplicates were supposed to fix the problem. but as of Thunderbird 16.02 on Windows 7 did not. I brout up THunderbird and Message Pane showed the Recipient and not the From. I changed the Message Pane Header to add From and Removed Recipient.

When I raised the problem on already existing bugs, I was told to enter it as a new bug.

Here is the quote of the message from that bug.

The issue that was fixed in this bug was a real problem, and therefore solved the symptoms for many users.

There is a natural progression in a bug's life, starting with a symptom, and ultimately morphing into the resolution of a specific problem. This bug has now morphed beyond being defined by the symptom, and is more defined by the problem that it solved.

So if you are still seeing similar symptoms, yes it is annoying but the proper thing to do is to file a new bug, and go back to the basics of developing a reproducible test case.

Actual results:

The next time I brought up Thunderbird the Message Pane again showed Recipient and not From.

Expected results:

The setting that I put in should have been persistent.
This problem still persists in Thunderbird 19 BETA 1

Some additional info on my version of this bug in case it helps with debugging:
Running WinXP Pro - current on patches
Stay current on Thunderbird patches, as well.
Problem has been around for several years (I think at least 3), and shows up 100% of the time immediately after a Thunderbird update is applied - I immediately re-select the "From" column and de-select the "Recipient" column each time.
It hangs around for the next 2-4 invocations of Thunderbird, despite me correcting it each time it happens. There seems to be no pattern to when it finally stops happening (aborts vs. controlled shutdowns).
It will occasionally show up again after a system abort (Windows blue-screen while Thunderbird is running), but then clears up after the next time I fix the columns.

My inbox currently has over 6000 messages, but this began happening when the number was closer to 4000. Messages go back as far as 2003. I did attempt an uninstall/reinstall a few releases back, but no change. I just installed 17.0.5 and the Recipient column appeared on first launch again.

I realize this isn't extremely detailed, but as a former code debugger, I know any information might trigger something. If someone has some suggestions to narrow down the potential problem, I'll be happy to try.
Hillel, do you still see this problem?

Hi Wayne - For me, this was fixed several releases ago (I'm currently on 38.3.0). I consider this one resolved for my situation. Thanks!
