Each time I update to Thunderbird 17.0, the programme removes my calendar function and also crashes when I reply to an e-mail, so I have reverted back to 16.0.2

Ensure that Lightning is updated to version 1.9. Older versions don't work with Thunderbird 17. Same applies to all other extensions particularly with regard to e-mail related extensions like enigmail.
