Steps to reproduce:

When GSSAPI authentication scheme is used and there is no stored password for account, then automatic check for new messages not working.
How to replay:
- There is a POP3-server with support for the CRAM-MD5 and GSSAPI
- In the Thunderbird create a new account and choose method GSSAPI
- New messages are now checked only at startup or manually
- In the Thunderbird choose the method "Encrypted password". Thunderbird asks for a password for the first time you check the mailbox, and stores the password.
- New messages are now checked automatically after a specified period of time
- In the Thunderbird choose the method GSSAPI
- The Thunderbird continue to check new messages automatically after a specified period of time
- In the settings menu remove the saved mailbox password
- New messages are now  checked only at startup or manually



Actual results:

New messages are checked only at startup or manually if the method GSSAPI is used and and there is no stored password for account


Expected results:

New messages are checked automatically after a specified period of time if the method GSSAPI is used and and there is no stored password for account

Yes, I do.
I re-checked it today with the latest Thunderbird 45.4.0 - still doesn't check automatically with GSSAPI. Plain scheme works.
