This is spin-off of "alert part" in bug 805185 comment #0 and "alert part" at step (8) in bug 805185 comment #22.

Annoying alert of "This folder is being processed. Please wait ..." is shown for each Tb's main window what is opened by Session Restore, if Tb is terminated while multiple windows are opened and "Check for new messages at startup" is enabled.

[Build] Thunderbird 17.0.1 offcial release.

[Steps to reproduce]

(0) Create a new Tb profile, create a dummy POP3 account.
Enable "check new messages at startup" option at Server Settings.
(1) Select Inbox, terminate Tb.
(2) Restart Tb.
=> One main window is opened. Inbox is selected.
(3) Via Context menu of a local mail folder including folder of "Local
    Folders", "Open".
=> A new main window is opened with the local mail folder selected.
Currently 2 main windows are opened.
(4) Repeat step (3) XX times(XX==0 to N) => 2+XX main windows are opened.
(5) Terminate Tb via File/Exit.
=> All 2+XX windows are closed.
=> All 2+XX windows are saved in sessions.json by Session Restore.
(Note: Bug 805185 is for "all windows is closed despite X button of a window")
(6) Restart Tb => All the 2+XX windows are opened from sessions.json.
(7) At this step, following alert is shown for each 2nd to (2+XX)th window.
OK for each alert is needed to close the annoying alerts.
> Alert
> ! This folder is being processed. Please wait until processing is complete to get messages.
> [ OK ]
(8) Click "OK" for each alert.
(9) Close each window by Alt+F4 to bypass Bug 805185.
(10) Terminate Tb.
I am not seeing "This folder is being processed". I just have password prompt. And spinning icon in tabs while the password prompt is up

By STR in comment #0(with single POP3 account only, with new mail check requeted)?
Or with multiple POP3 accounts, with new mail check requeted?
Or with multiple POP3 accounts, without new mail check requeted?
Or without POP3 account?

If with POP3 account(s), dummy POP3 account(s)? Actual POP3 account(s)?
(I observed alert(s) with dummy POP3 accounts, with new mail check requeted for the POP3 accounts. I don't have definition of actual POP3 account in my test profile, because there is no need to test POP3 these days :-) )

Password prompt for POP3 account? Or password prompt for IMAP account or new account?
Rob, Vasil, do you still have pop accounts and can reproduce this using Wada's steps?

related to bug 288896 and/or bug 707933?

Well, there is pop.gmail.com, so yes, I have a POP account. But I am afraid I will not be able to look into this soon.

Actually, yes, I'm seeing this behaviour. Sorry for the delay, I never saw this request.

I seldom have multiple windows open AND I never close Thunderbird with file>exit so I never saw this bug.

By the way, I have not created a dummy account, I just have 2 POP3 accounts which I use normally. I don't even think you need multiple, I open my Thunderbird, position the mouse on any inbox (including the 'collected' inbox, don't know what it's called in English), select 'open in new window' (even only once), allow the new window to open completely, file>exit;

restart thunderbird => first window opens; second window opens also, with the popup error message.

Can you reproduce this using a current beta?

Bug still exists with the current beta (60.0b11). Tested with my simplified workflow (see comment 7):
- open thunderbird
- open a mailbox in new window
- exit thunderbird
- restart thunderbird

=> first window opens, second window opens with the popup error message.

Rob, a fix is being tested in bug 707933

I don't see this behaviour anymore in current TB 91.6.1

Flags: needinfo?(rob.smeets)

Scratch that. I just tested again and I was mistaken.
It's still there in current TB 91.6.1.

  • open thunderbird
  • open a mailbox in new window
  • exit thunderbird (with file > exit, making both windows close)
  • restart thunderbird

=> first window opens, second window opens with the popup error message.

Severity: minor → S4

Rob, does it reproduce with 102 or newer?

Flags: needinfo?(m-wada)
Flags: needinfo?(rob.smeets)

It reproduces with 102. (I don't make a new dummy account, just use my normal bunch of POP3 accounts).
It takes a few seconds for all the popups to arrive.
While looking what version I was running, I saw that an update to 115 was available, so I've updated and in 115 it's there as well.

Somewhere along the way, a feature I use broke though :( ('samengevoegde mappen' which translates like 'joined folders', where all my inboxes were displayed on top of the tree, now shows only the inbox of my test account and not the others)

Flags: needinfo?(rob.smeets)

(nevermind that thing with the joined folders, it's fixed already - and it's also not relevant here)
