Details

Current behavior with new autocomplete:

Typing a search term in the url bar activates drop down, but if a user prefers
to click the search button vice use the drop-down, they have to click twice -
once to change focus and once to click the search button. This is annoying and
users may think the search button doesn't work if they click on it once and
nothing happens.

Desired behavior:

Type a search term and be able to use the autocomplete search or the search
button with one click.

German, does this seem right to you?
Nominating nsbeta1 - we should try to implement this for rtm.

I have filed a more general bug in Bug 82173.
this is a bug in the toolkit, not the intended behavior.. I believe it's a dupe
- anyone listening seen the bug about popups stealing focus or not allowing
other events to go through?
yes clicking the search button should dismiss the menu popdown in the url bar.
I suspect like Alex that has sth to do with menu behavior in XP Toolkit...
john, can you wrestle up the bug alec is talking about?
Actually this is feature, not a bug, I believe. (Although personally, I
don't prefer this behaviour), the menu will capture mouse clicks until
dismissed.

So, we could go with
bug 66834 "location bar drop-down should not block clicks outside of itself"

Or, maybe bug 21390 "Clicking on Widget or link does nothing if menu open"
(marked INVALID by german because "I find it much preferrable for our
audience to interpret the outside click as a menu cancel gesture..."
well, for now, I'll mark a dupe of the open bug, and mention the INVALID bug in
the open bug
