User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:17.0) Gecko/17.0 Firefox/17.0 Build ID: 20121119183901 Steps to reproduce: Installed firefox Actual results: All bookmarks go to the stupid unsorted bookmarks folder by default. Users shouldn't have to be forced to organize their bookmarks if they don't want to. Users shouldn't be forced to deal with .css scripts if they don't want to. I'm a developer and a firefox volunteer for spider monkey and this design decision irks me a lot. Google searches for the problem come up numerous hits with other users being annoyed by this "feature", so there are many people that think like me out there. I understand that this was requested by some unfortunate soul, but there should be a real configuration option to disable the folder all together. Responses to user requests like these are laughable at best: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=680790 if you guys don't follow what the users want, firefox will go down the path of gnome 3.
The solutions presented here don't work (and modifying css shouldn't be a solution for end users): http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/848451?page=1
And another thread online showing that this is related to the default folder for the star bookmark: http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/787929?s=unsorted+bookmarks+&as=s I should at the very least be able to modify where the star puts bookmarks by default. I installed 4 different extensions that have been suggestions on dealing with this problem on various forums and none of them actually solve it.
OK I'm sorry to comment again. I am just getting educated with the reason why this whole mess is present in the first place. Apparently the unsorted bookmarks folder presence in the menu is needed, because bookmarks were going there and people couldn't get to it, which is utter stupidity in itself. The REAL problem is that there is no way to change where the star puts bookmarks by default. The correct solution to this bug would be to be able to configure where the star puts bookmarks and have it remember that choice for future bookmarks.
You want something like https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-bookmark-here-2/ And moreover this is a Dupe of an already filed Report where all Complaints/Use Cases/Pros+Cons has been mentioned => thus resolving this one.

I don't agree that using the addon is a good solution, but I do agree that my bug is a duplicate of https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=423617 I don't know why my search didn't bring it up. Thanks for pointing to it.
