User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.0; rv:17.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/17.0 Build ID: 20121128204232 Steps to reproduce: senario: I have 5 emails in the list and the first 3 are unread. I want to read the first two. I select to read the first. I select to read the second, but choose to delete the second email. Actual results: After deleting the second email in the list, the 3rd unread email in the list now takes the position as second and automatically is selected and displayed as open in the Message pane. It is now also automatically set as read because my preferences are set to set as read when opened. However, I did not choose to read or open this email. Additionally: If I subsequently delete the third (now showing as the second email), then the focus remains on the second position, thus opening the fourth previously read email which has now taken up the second position. Expected results: Because the focus was on the second email position, when I deleted it, the third email takes up the position of second and is auto given focus, but it should not have been given auto focus nor auto open and therefore auto read. I did not select Next. In the 'additionally' case, where it opened a previously read email, this is equally not required and could cause confusion as to whether this was a previously read email or a duplicate. If perceived to be a duplicate, it could be deleted in error. The problem seems to be regarding the focus on a given position in the list, which if an email is deleted passes the focus onto the Next because it has taken up the same position in the list due to the deletion of an email. I consider the Auto opening of unread (or read) mail based on the deletion of another email to be not good practice. This feature seems to have in Thunderbird since the beginning of time, but I consider it to be a bug. I'm sure Thunderbird developers must agree that auto opening of email not selected to be opened, is of sufficient importance to look into and resolve.
