Tested on 2013-02-21 Nightly built from http://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/rev/d57a813c77a4
- Reopening because while it seems that the download is downloading in the background, there's no indication of progress (the progress indicator bar is blank), and there is not notification when a download does complete. In addition, if you are prompted to save a file (because it cannot open it - which seems to be the default behavior) you need to click once on the "download" bar, which takes you to the downloads page or panel, and then the same bar appears again.

You can try downloading a Ubuntu or any Linux iso and also nightly.mozilla.org

Main success scenario #4 and extension 1.a.3 fail for the story.

Let's resolve this. We have those covered in other stories like:
Bug 831942 - Story - Initiate a file download and display the downloads app bar
Bug 831943 - Story - Monitor download progress
Bug 831944 - Story - Open downloaded file from downloads app bar

The main purpose of this story was to make sure that when we are not the foreground app the download keeps going. We certainly need the downloads app bar but that is well covered in another story.
