From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:0.9+) Gecko/20010525
BuildID: 2001052504

When looking at a directory in Mozilla (like C:\), it can't be
printed -- all I get is the headers, and a gray page.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Type a local directory into the URL box (like C:\ on Windows).
2. Press Enter / click Go.
3. File->Print.

Actual Results: A page is printed with the headers "Name", "Size", and "Last
Modified". The rest of the page is medium gray, but with no
text or icons. There is exactly one page of this printed,
regardless of how many files were visible.

Expected Results: It should print the directory (more-or-less) how I see it
on the screen.

Netscape 4.77 can print directory listings, but IE5 can't.
I've had users ask me how to do this, so there are apparently
real people who want it.
Are you using the XUL tree directory view or the HTML directory view?
If "HTML directory view" is the big <PRE> table like Netscape 4.x does,
this is the XUL tree -- it's like the "manage bookmarks" tree.

(I didn't think Mozilla still did text-only directory listings -- I don't
see a preference for it, anyway -- but I may be wrong.)
There's a pref under "Debug -> Networking" to use the HTML directory view if I
remember correctly.

Ever confirmed: true
So there is. (I must be blind.)

That setting appears to affect FTP directories, but not local directories.
Is this a bug?

(For the long-term, printing the XUL tree would be preferable, anyway.
It wouldn't have to be fixed-width, it could be sorted by size or date
instead of filename, and users could have some sub-directories expanded.)

Is this really a duplicate? Or just a separate bug with similar symptoms?
I'm seeing the name-size-lastmod titles, a big grey box,
and now a huge pixellated down-arrow.

The guys over at 84017 claim to have a patch. I'm not convinced
this is a dupe. Has anybody gotten printing-of-directory-trees
to work at all? I'm thinking this was simply never implemented.
I'm reopening, since bug 84017 was apparently fixed a couple days ago
on both branch and trunk, but I'm still seeing this bug.
Also marking All (seeing on Linux 2001071021).
