Details

I cannot use the wheel on my wheel-mouse to navigate through options in a drop- down (select) box, like I can in IE and Navigator Build number: 2001060420
I am not sure exactly what is desired. My guess is the following behavior: With the combo-box closed nad having focus and the mouse pointer over the select box Mozilla does not respond, while IE scrolls through the selections. I can see how the IE behavior is convenient. With the combo box open and the cursor over the list box both browsers scroll the page, and will change the selection on detecting a mouse move. With the combo box open and the cursor over the select box, the mouse wheel closes the list box in Mozilla, and scrolls the list box without changing the selection in IE. When I rule the world it will scroll both the selection and the list. This appears related to be related to bug 78786. This should probably go to HTML Form Controls as an enhancement request.
I suspect this is a dup of 33732. Using a Logitech mouse on WinMe I get the same behaviour in Mozilla and IE when I check "Use MSOffice compatible scrolling" in the mouse software, when a dropdown is selected and has a scrollbar, the wheel scrolls through the options. This is the same workaround as suggested in 33732. Leaving MS office compatibility unchecked makes the wheel unusable in dropdowns in Mozilla, scrolling with the wheel makes the dropdown list "drop back up". I suspect this is what the reporter is referring to. Same setting in IE enables the wheel to scroll through the options without actually dropping down the list. Reporter, are you using a Logitech mouse?
