Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:19.0) Gecko/20130306 Firefox/21.0

STR:
1. Download the stub installer
2. Start the installer.
3. Select install.

Actual result: Flicker while going from the Download ("global community of users" screen) to the Install phase (Haiku screen)

Note: there is no flicker during the first two screens in the Download phase.

screencast (wmv format): http://www.screencast.com/users/SBadau/folders/Default/media/8505342b-c33c-46ff-a3c4-8367ac65b6da

Happens in most (~80%) of the runs. Reproduced on several machines: Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7.

Couldn't find a pattern. I initially thought that this occurs when doing pave-over, but I can reproduce the issue without an existing installation.

Virgil, could you see if you can reproduce with the following stub that is built with this patch? I wasn't able to reproduce on Win7 and I'd like verification that it is fixed on WinXP and WinVista.

I can still reproduce on Windows XP - 4 out 4 times (2 times each on x86 and x86_64) and I can still see a flicker (first transition or second)

Couldn't reproduce on Vista - all looks smooth there.

With the build from step 4, of course.

Are we still considering this a blocker for bug 857842?
I'd like to get it but with the difficulty in coming up with a solution for all windows versions and that it is a visual glitch I don't think it should block.
Thanks.

Reporter, could you try the attached stub installer and check if you can reproduce with it?

Cornel, could you help out with testing if the attached stub installer still exhibits this bug? Thanks!

Specifically, on Win XP.
I'm still able to reproduce this issue with the attached stub installer on Windows XP.
It's not reproducing each time, more like 50% of the cases now, it's still there but it isn't so obvious though.
Also, there were a few times when I saw the flicker during the download phase.

Cornel, Nightly now has a single progress bar which might fix this. Could you try it out again? Thanks!
Flags: needinfo?(cornel.ionce)
Unfortunately the issue is still reproducing with the latest nightly's stub installer.
The flicker still occurs when the download phase changes to installing.

It's unlikely that I will get to work on this in the next two weeks, so unassigning myself for now.

Is this still relevant given the installer changes?

I can confirm that the initial issue is not reproducible on the following stub installer builds: latest nightly (2018-01-10), 58.0b15 build1 (20180108140638) and 57.0.4 build1 (20180103231032) across platforms (Windows 7 x86/64, Windows 8 x86/64, Windows 10 x86/64). Regarding Windows XP and Vista, the Firefox support was ended for this platforms starting with Firefox 52.
In conclusion, we can consider that this is no longer relevant, so I will close it as invalid.
