This is sort of mine... but I'd appreciate any help from i18n I can get.
this doesn't work for mail either, if you type one non-ascii char it won't find
a match, though autocomplete will work if non-ascii char is not on the first
position "bë"

In url bar, looks like not all the characters show the search menu even ASCII.
On my machine, 'a' and 'c' shows the search menu 'q' and 'o' do not.
Joe is that a bug?

Joe, could you put the bug number here? It could be the same reason that non
ASCII characters not working. Or is the feature supported for ASCII only currently?

Don't worry about that bug - it has nothing to do with particular characters.
Whenever the results of the autocomplete search return no results twice in a
row, the popup won't appear. It's an xptoolkit problem with popups.

Okay, but for non ASCII case, it almost always there is no result for
autocomplete. So the search menu will not be shown if the string starts with a
non ASCII character, right?

I am not sure what happens with non-ascii characters since I'm not able to test
with foreign language configurations at the moment. I'm curious to see what
happens, so if anybody in building 21 wants to give me a demonstration I'd be
happy to see it.

This can be tested on US windows.
On Windows, hold alt then type num pad 0225 will produce 'á'
similarly,
alt + 0226 is 'â'
alt + 0227 is 'ã'
where the four digits is a decimal number of character codes.
We can also show you on our machine. We are in the first floor of bld. 21.
