RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 48948

Details

When selecting a file to download, I was prompted for the action to take with this file (.hqx binhex archive). I went to set the default action (to open with the Stuffit expander application) and then told the browser to use the default action (which I just set). Every time I download a .hqx file, I get prompted for the action to take. The preference does not seem to stick. (BTW: I did nto have .hqx defined in the internet prefs. I changed that and the problem is still there).

Still a problem in the latest nightlies?>
I just downloaded Build ID 2001072618 (today's build). The problem is still there and there is a little more to it. I noticed that you redesigned the window somewhat (at least I hope you redesigned it because it looks different). In any case, here's what's happening now: When I click on the link for the Macintosh nightly build from the mozilla.org page, the downloading window says you have chosen to download a file of type" "#1"[#2] from #3 (problem #1) The first choice is open using #1 (problem #2), when I click on the Choose button and select an application, the entire application path appears there. However, since this is 3 lines long, the text and the buttons move down. The buttons do not refresh and get clipped by the text (problem #3). When I try to click on the buttons, they refresh (although the old buttons are there as well) and appear partially off the downloading window (problem #4). Whether I choose either "Open using" or "Save to disk" and make sure that the "Always ask" checkbox is off (so that Mozilla remembers this setting) I get prompted every time I try to download the nightly build installer (a .bin file). (problem #5). I tried looking at the advanced options to see if this would make a difference, but the advanced button has no effect (problem #6). Once I hit the OK button, the downloading window disappears and I have no indication of download progress (problem #7). BTW: I don't know if it is best to put all of these in this reports (since they are all about the same dialog box) or if it would be best to open a bug for each of these. I though I'd let you decide. If you think they should be separated I will go through the bugzilla helper and separate the things you did not ask about. =} Javier
Reporter, since 0.9.3 is out now, would you reconfirm in that release?
It is still happening. I just tried it again with build 2001080214 (0.9.3). I get the same problem. I go to versiontracker.com and sleect a .hqx to download. It asks for the action to take. I make sure that the prompt for what action to take is unchecked (so that it won't ask again), but when I download another .hqx it prompts again.
Reporter, this works for me under Mac/2001080214 on Mac OS 9.1. I download one .hqx file, unselect the "Ask every time..." checkbox, then download a second .hqx file, and I am not presented with that dialog again. Would you try to reproduce with a new Mozilla user profile after you delete the Mozilla Registry file in your Preferences folder? Thanks.
I deleted the registry and tried it again and it was still not working. I deleted Mozilla, the Mozilla folder under the documents folder and all files that had Mozilla as part of their name on the preferences folder, downloaded a copy of build 2001080214, reinstalled it, created a new profile using a profile name i had never used before and tried it again at versiontracker.com. I still have the same problem. BTW: I don't know if this makes a difference, but the file type shows up as: "#1" [#2] from #3 BTW: I am also using MacOS 9.1.
One more thing that may or may not make a difference, the "Ask every time..." checkbox on the dialog box I get is off by default.
