ctrl-n still worked, but that's not what I wanted.
I did exit, re-start, re-try to confirm results
Ctrl+T works for me with the latest Nightly.
Try in safe mode:

then with a new profile:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles

I forgot to start in safe mode.
it is an add on problem.
