User Agent: Opera/9.80 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64) Presto/2.12.388 Version/12.15

Steps to reproduce:

tried to drag the overall Thunderbird window after clicking on it and holding the mouse button;

Actual results:

If I clicked on the window, or dragged it less than approximately 45 sec. ago, the window froze, i.e. it could not be dragged as long as about 45 sec. after the last clicking on it or dragging. In other words - it freezes for about 45 sec. every time after "touching".
This problem is present since the last 3 - 4 releases (versions). System: Win7 64 bit

Expected results:

The window should be able to be dragged at any time, as soon as one cliks and holds the mouse button.

Does problem go away with thunderbird in safe mode
- http://support.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/kb/safe-mode ?

Does problem go away in *Windows'* safe mode with networking enabled?
- win7 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

let us know please

The problem exists also:
- after starting the Thunderbird in safe mode
- after starting Win in safe mode with and without enabled networking
Further observations:
If Win is started in safe mode the waiting time to allow dragging the window seemed to be much, much longer.
HOWEVER: I´ve realized something NEW (in all modi, and also under normal conditions):
whether dragging the window is possible or not depends apparently on the spot where the mouse cursor points (when pressing and holding the right button). When pointing the cursor close to the right margin near the top (just below the "Close Window", i.e. "x" icon), the dragging semms to work always (!). If pointing the mouse cursor in the middle between the right upper corner and "Help" menu - this area seems to be "dead" and the dragging never works (or maybe works after a very long time). This is valid in any mode.
Cheers!

I think I know the reason! (The observations above were not quite right - see below)
I´ve just opened my Thunderbird on my notebook, where I use an older version. I´ve realized that the Thundrebird window actually does have a blue margin on the top - as every window does. In the faulty version there is no blue margin at all! And since one has to click on the blue area only, pointing the cursor below that of course does not allow any dragging! Indeed, Th. seems to work if pointing close to the upper margin. But since the blue line is completely missing, I do not know where this area ends (and did not even realize that it is missing).
In other words: the blue line on the top is not visible, thus the user do not see exactly where to point the mouse cursor to drag the window.
Peter, do you still see this when using version 24?

Hi Wayne,

what I observe in the version I have (24.0.1) is:
- still no blue margin on the top, but
- now I can drag the window after clicking on any spot within the (relatively large) top grey area, so this actually solves the problem.
Thank you!

Update:
it´s not quite true. There is an area within the grey top one where the window cannot be dragged if clicking on it. It´s appartently at the height of the menu names (like, I guess in the English version, "File", "Edit"... till "Help".) This area remains "blind". Above and below it works. Sorry I did not notice it immediately.

I have this already in bug 953204 but I split this to this one to be able to land also on ESR.

User impact if declined: User cannot drag the window over the menubar area
Testing completed (on c-c, etc.): Not yet, tree is closed. But the similar code is already in Fx Australis.
Risk to taking this patch (and alternatives if risky): Low, only CSS change.

Ok, lets get this on aurora (and hence beta) for the next cycle, and push it to esr at the end of the next cycle.
