Interestingly the grey bar goes away when the application is in the background. So far it looks like this needs to be fixed in widget code.

I don't believe so. I'm talking about the top 4px of the image that are grey. It's also visible with browser.tabs.drawInTitlebar = false.

This problem only seems to occur when the display is in the portrait orientation. I suspect there are some incorrect assumptions about orientation in the widget code but I don't think attachment 763220 [details] [diff] [review] was related to that and therefore may be on the wrong track. This bug has existed for years (see the dupes).
