Using plugger plugin and kmidi as midi player, an object is not played.
Here is the html source:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">
<html>
<head><title>foo</title></head>
<body>
<object type="audio/midi" data="music.mid"></object>
</body>
</html>
It worked in 0.9. Additionally, the output on terminal is:
/home/br/.mozilla/br/agzixw6m.slt/NewCache/5C1ABA26d01: No such file or directory

I did some diging i cache file to see midi files were cached. It was not I think
that is were some of the problem is. AN soulution would be to make sure that
mozilla did place embed midi files oi cache.

I have sone some more testing with this bug. While seeing on my web site, I did
get plugger to play by pointing straight at midi files. When midi files are
embed in a page mozilla does not download thesse files in a manner which make it
aviavble for plugger.

PLugger work with Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:0.9.3+)
Gecko/20010825 it is better than before. Thoug I had to reload to get music
with plugger.

As said in my initial post, I think it is not the plugger itself (accessing
directly the midi file works - as Knut also pointed), but when the midi file
is defined as an html "object".

This sounds like another dup, but more investigation may be needed to find the
the right bug.
Try clearing your cache. Does this happen for local vs. network delivered files?
Does this happen for the EMBED and OBJECT tag? Does this happen in the full-page
case (going directly to an MIDI url)? Is this a regression; did it work with
previous version of Gecko?

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:0.9.3+) Gecko/20010825 appear to have
none problem with plugger after I clear mozilla cache. It play midi file just fine.

I'm also having problems getting midis to play. I have tried installing
plugger, which did nothing, as well as trying to force mozilla to use timidity,
which doesn't do anything. Timidity works in console though.
My focus is to be able to play the midis that come along with the sample
basslines at www.activebass.com - please check that site.

I took a look at the site:
http://members.tripod.com/knutjorgen/
and the midi seemed to play alright. I am using Plugger with Timidity. The
mozilla version I am using is Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i586; en-US; rv:0.9.6
Gecko/20011120). I'd like to write a simplified test case, but I'm so new to
this that I probably won't be able to.
Also, if I'm doing some wrong or if you have any suggestions for improvement,
please let me know.

Oops. I forgot to mention that I went to www.activebass.com to compare the
results, and it didn't seem to work for me. The first time the browser crashed.
The other times I tried it, I couldn't click any links after it. Make sense? I
don't know how to describe it other than a page saying, "Click here", but no
underlined text, and you can't click there.
As I said in my previous message, the other site worked okay.
I noticed that www.activebass.com is mostly frames and .asp files. Maybe they
are to blame?

This worked for me, sort of. I had to copy the midi file into /tmp/plugtmp
manually, because the browser didn't do it for me. From what I understand of
the sources [and I could be wrong] the browser is supposed to create the
directory, copy it over and let the plugin or helper application [in my case,
Timidity] where to load the file.
I am using Plugger, Timidity, and Mozilla 0.9.6 Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux
i586; en-US; rv:0.9.6) Gecko/20011120

This file takes the midi file from:
http://members.tripod.com/knutjorgen/mid/raiders.mid
whereas the previous file took it from my own harddrive and from the same
directory as the simplified testcase file. This one seemed to work without any
flaws. I don't know exactly why it is like that, but I'll take a guess.
The coders probably designed Mozilla to download the file to the harddrive and
read from there, and never thought of "downloading from one's own harddrive". I
don't understand the details of how a server works, but it would probably be
like trying to execute a server side script from your harddrive, without
running a server.
As with all things, I could be wrong.
Sincerely, and with thanks,
Eugene T.S. Wong

I have the same problem with the MIDI files. They work fine if it is a direct
link to a MIDI file but with an embed tag, all i get is a message "helper runing"
With Mozilla 0.9.8 all work fine, it's only with Mozilla 1.0 att i get this bug.
You can try to http://www.geocities.com/dominique_pifpaf/index.html
it's an embed tag in the page
