User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:22.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/22.0 (Beta/Release)
Build ID: 20130618035212

Steps to reproduce:

A week ago, in an effort to accommodate friends with Smart phones who were very annoyed by the CoDING they would get from my HTML emails, I reset my Prefs. to "plain text"

That was for sending and receiving . Since then, I changed my mind about this .

I respecified "Send in HTML Anyway" and I can compose in HTML .....but IT DOESN'T SHOW UP when I send. Ditto for receiving pics etc....

I thought of Uninstalling and Re installing Tbird; but I'm afraid of losing my history which is huge.

Actual results:

I get PLAIN TEXT both Sending and RECEIVING no matter what I do .

Even if I compose in HTML ...when I look at the SENT folder, it's become TEXT
Also : no more PICTURES ..only links.

Expected results:

I should be able to TOGGLE btween HTML and Text on demand.

I should be able to rec. and send actual pics NOT links

This is by Options/Format/Auto Detect of HTML composition mode.

If your request is "remove Auto Detect", WONTFIX, because it's working as desined and implemeted.
If your request is "imporovement in downgrading logic from HTML to Text", dup of bug 414299.
If your request is "way to disable Auto Detect" or "Default other than Auto Detect", dup of bug 136502.
If your request is "improvement in decision to do downgrade to Text or not", dup of bug 584363.
If other, search B.M.O for bugs relevant to "Auto Detect". I believe you can find many bugs which is appropriate for duping your bug report.

For pretty simple and easy workarounds, read bug 136502.

WADA; Sorry I don't understand.

= I DONT HAVE Options/Format/Auto Detect of HTML composition mode.
= I don't have Auto-Detect ANYWHERE in the menus

= to repeat > I want to compose in HTML and that mesage STAY IN HTML in Sent and at destination .

Where did you check for "Auto Detect"? Localized Tb, so string of "Auto Detect" doesn't exist in you Tb? Or "Auto-Detect" exists in menu but "Auto Detect" doesn't exist in menu?

So I assumed "You composed mail in HTML composition mode, instead of Text composition mode".
Is it right?

If right, and you are talking about "mail composition in HTML mode", have you read bugs which I pointed?
Have you tried Google search for "Thunderbird HTML auto detect" etc.?
Did you see "Options/Format" menu of Tb's HTML mode composition window?
