I'm updating my tree to reproduce this. Just looking in the console of an
optimized build does not offer any clues yet. 

yes it is happening on an optimized branch build so it is PDT+. 
i have not yet checked on a trunk build.

removed modal so it looks like there's another use of it somewhere.
