89792 - Browser plugins install, but non-functional

Installed Java plugin manually (symbolic link to the oji file) as well as
through the netscape page.  About page shows the plugin is correctly installed
in both cases.  However, when the VM is actived (ex. www.jars.com then go to the
advanced search), Mozilla crashes with the following error. 

Error occured during initialization of VM
java/lang/NoClassDefFoundError: java/lang/Object
INTERNAL ERROR on Browser End: Could not read ack from browser
System error?:: Resource temporarily unavailable

What worked (Java plugin found on ftp.netscape.com) in 0.9.1 no longer works
with 0.9.2 or 0.9.2+ builds.  About all I've not done is delete the user
registry in ~/.mozilla.

Also, other plug-ins such as "Flash" no longer work, though they did in 0.9.1.

My platform is Suse 7.1 (2.4) running on AMD Athlon w/256 MB.

I got it finally to work using the plugin which came with JRE 1.3.1 (JSE
1.3.1-b24) which I obtained from Sun directly.  I never got the version from
ftp.netscape.com to work.

i was going to try this..but am blocked by another problem..where the 
browser installer does not proceed ...but that is totally seperate..i will try 
this asap and comment..

redhat 6.1 :
worked for me. I went and grabbed the plugin from home.netscape.com site, and 
installed the plugin. After the installation completed, I typed" about:plugins" 
in url bar, java was listed. Then I quit the browser and restarted, but got an 
error message saying " the application needs to shut down for previous 
installation to complete". I clicked ok, the message came up again...one more 
time{ Thisproblem is filed in bugzilla as bug 84639) ..however I could launch 
the browser and plugin worked. After I created a new profile, I could not launch 
brower which is bug 89488

The original bug report here doesn't seem to be a duplicate.  The bug of which
this was marked as duplicate seems only to be something that blocked testing of
this bug.

mass duplicate verifications . For filtering purposes, pls use keywd
"massdupverification"
