RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 877479

People

(Reporter: gizmobits, Unassigned)

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:23.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/23.0 (Beta/Release)
Build ID: 20130730113002

Steps to reproduce:

Installed Firefox 23.

Actual results:

The tab bar was visible even though I've always had it set to false for "Always show the tab bar" as I do not use tabs.

Expected results:

The tab bar should be hidden when only one tab is attached to a window.
Intended change: bug 855370

You can restore it with this add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/hide-tab-bar-with-one-tab/
Erick, looks like this was a decision taken after a bunch of discussion so I hope using the add-on will work okay for you.

First, thanks for the tip on the add-on - seems many don't know about it.

Second, I've got it and it works, but not thrilled with the decision. I did some research on the discussion and I understand why the change was made, but I think Firefox would have been better served by accommodating this old behavior. I'd bet that as 23 rolls out to more people, it will be a point of irritation for many.

Third, the moving of so much historically core functionality to add-ons is... Overwhelming for the add-ons list. Keeping track of all that are needed to restore sane behavior becomes daunting. Perhaps cleaning up the code and moving the checkbox to about:config would have been a better choice? Just sayin'.

Thanks.
This is really another duplicate of bug 877479.
