ENVIRONMENT: ZTE Open version 1.0.1.0 Build Identifier: 20130531232151 STEPS TO REPLICATE: Set up a Gmail account with Imap, and then tap to open various emails on the Inbox. I personally did not have this problem happen through WiFi. EXPECTED RESULTS: The email should open normally and the contents should be displayed. ACTUAL RESULTS: Occasionally, the body of the email does not show up. The header information, including sender, recipients, and email title appear, but the body of the email does not show. Only the spinning circle shows up, indefinitely. Please let me know if there is any additional information that I could ask the users. This was reported by a user on Input, and by another user on Mozilla-Hispano: https://www.mozilla-hispano.org/foro/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=16362 Here is the verbatim of the user that reported via Input: When I open the email application, automatically it downloads the list of emails (IMAP). Then I choose one to read it, it opens and in the top appears sender and receiver (me) adresses and the headline of the email but, in the content, the blue arrow turns and turns non stop and never appears the text (or the image or whatever which it´s attached), sometimes (aproximatelly an average of 1 each 10 emails) the email its opened and after this, this email will be always opened without any problem. I´ve tried to sent an email and it works perfectly, so I can´t understand what happens, because even there´s no relation between the size of the email, for example your email which it´s only text it´s not opened and other with an photo-advertisement was open and, as I said, since this moment always can be opened. It might be something related with gmail service because with hotmail doesn´t happens. I tried to change sincronization from automatic to 1 day and it doesn´t helps neither. The only suspicious thing i´ve seen is that the hosts name is imap.googlemail.com and looking on the internet normally it´s used imap.gmail.com but it can´t be changed manually. I´ve changed the server from imap.googlemail.com to imap.gmail.com configurating manually the account and it happens exactly the same problem, even the same emails are opened and which not still no. The easiest/most useful info we can be provided is adb logcat output, ideally with 'adb logcat' started before trying to reproduce the bug. See https://wiki.mozilla.org/Gaia/Email/RequiredBugInfo for more info. This sounds like we are either encountering some IMAP parse errors on the body or we are having serious network connection stability issues or we're just not noticing that the connection is dead. It's probably worth noting that the user can hit the back button from the message reader to go back to the message list. And it's possible that trying to look at another message may cause us to re-connect to the network. We stop automatically trying to connect at some point and leave it up to the user to try and do something that forces us to try and connect.

Hi Andrew, Thanks for your the instructions for the ADB logcat output. I did a few tests, and although I was not able to replicate this issue again, organically, I was able to reproduce it by "Opening an email, and as it loads, deactivating the network connection." I am attaching the logcat from this test. Thank you also for the suggestion of hitting the back button. Although it's a good workaround for a temporary issue, I believe it's not a very good user experience. Some users may be left waiting and frustrated if there is no interim message that there is no network connection, especially in countries where the coverage may be spotty. Steps to replicate - 1. Open email application 2. Open an email 3. As the email is opening (blue circle spinning), pull the drop down notification bar 4. Deactivate the Internet connection This might take a few tries to get the timing correctly. But when it works, the blue circle keeps spinning indefinitely with no notice of the connection being lost.
Hi Andrew, Today I encountered this bug again in Bogotá, Colombia. Unfortunately, I did not have the computer available for logging. Moreover, hitting the "Back" button, and then trying to access the email did not solve the bug - the spinning circle continued to appear for a few hours. Hi, I can give more information. I´ve created new gmail account (let´s call it nº2) and it works perfectly but my old (nº1) does the same spining non stop, even resending all the emails from nº2 to nº1, in nº2 account I´m able to open everything but no in nº1. So i´ve been checking security tips and i haven´t found anything diferent between both (I will recheck it), one thing that it was different is that the tree directories (folders) in nº1 I created new and erased some of them, could it be that changing the structure it has some problem? Or maybe is problem of some served of Google. I don´t know, I will continue investigating.
Hi, I can reproduce this bug too. This on FFOS 1.0.1 and 1.1.1-prerelease. Opposite to comment 3, if I switch off and switch on again wifi by the notification panel during the blue circle is spinning, then the message body is loaded. Restarting the Mail App change nothing. Restarting FFOS change nothing. Wiping Cache from recovery mode change nothing. I can confirm too comment 5 : I set-up a 2sd gmail account and it works perfectly. I think that this bug should be turn to NEW.

The logs do not appear to be related to this bug. The 1.1.1 issues as indicated by both logs (5.1, 5.2) are bug 901926 which has been fixed on v1.2. The work-arounds are either to delete the offending message from the server or to hope that the message will no longer be synchronized and delete the account and re-add it so sync will no longer try and sync that. The 1.0.1 first log (7.1) shows no signs of errors occurring. The second log (7.2) might also be bug 901926 or some type of folder sync bug, although the error signature is different. v1.0.1 is extremely far behind trunk and no bugs will be fixed on it. I believe v1.1 is in a similar situation. Bugs should ideally be reproduced against trunk/master, although v1.2 hasn't diverged too much and fixed bugs are still eligible for uplift to it.

I tried to do a quick debug poke; unfortunately it seems you can't currently use the remote debugger on certified apps...? So I just stuck some console.log()s in to see what gets run. By default I just get this: I/GeckoDump( 3730): LOG: pushCard for type: message_reader With a bunch of extra console.log()s I can see that the message_reader card's postInsert method gets called, and it fetches a message body with the 'downloadBodyReps' option which fires off asynchronous fetch of the body contents. The main body object comes back, without the reps downloaded, and we fall out of postInsert, leaving an 'onchange' event handler on the body object which is supposed to call the card's handleBodyChange method. This never gets called, so we get left on the spinner display forever... I've taken a brief look at the backend bits in main-frame-setup.js but I don't know yet how everything works in there, it looks a bit scary!

Hi, I'm running 1.1.1.0-GP (last stable provided by geeksphone) on a keon (I'm a mozilla reps). I have the exact same bug: using WiFi or 3G, I can open the mail application, the new mails are fetched (but without the excerpt) and if I open a mail, I have the object, the contacts, but the body of the mail itself is not loading, it is spinning forever. It worked once a long time ago, but not anymore. I tried to switch off and on the wifi during loading, it doesn't change anything. I'm going to add the result of adb logcat | egrep -v 'IdleService|wpa_supplicant'

I can confirm this bug from the very first versions of fxos (from 1.0 to 1.4), also, i can confirm that this bug can be workarounded disabling and enabling the wifi. Tested with a GMail/IMAP account on GP-Peak and GP-Keon.
I just upgraded my Keon to the 1.3.0.0-prerelease, and I still have this bug.
I tried to reset my Keon, I wiped data and cache, nothing changed...
This is still an issue with Geeksphone Revolution on v1.3 (2e2e4488)
