For CDMA phone, UIM is the term for the chip rather than SIM. Places like notification tray, Settings > SIM security, and description of SIM security setting. * Build Number Gaia mozillaorg/master - 36c1af870731e906b33028418b9abaab58919b7d Gecko mozillaorg/master - 4d14292521d447cc488fd93b19b261934ba2a8b2 v1.2

The only way to tell the current used technology is through a build time configuration file, network.json. It would be better for apps to check the current used technology in runtime once gecko exposes such API.

Arthur, Have we had a chance to make progress? This is a koi+ so please provide an update.

Set to koi? as this does not affect functionality. It also depends on a new gecko API which may not be ready within v1.2 time frame.

Because of this bug, users will be confused in which kind of SIM they insert. So Koi+.

Currently we use a workaround that checks the capability of a device from a customization file. It is not feasible to add such workaround in every app that has the string 'SIM', thus the bug depends on the API proposed in bug 902371. Ken, is there any plan to land bug 902371 in v1.2?

If so, I will mark 902371 as koi+.

Hi Arthur, We have exposed the iccType in iccinfo [1], do you think it is enough for Gaia to show the type of sim card? Thank you. [1] http://mxr.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/source/dom/icc/interfaces/nsIDOMIccInfo.idl#10

As the offline discussion, we are able to detect the type of sim cards when they are inserted in the device. If the slot is empty, we still need an API to get the platform capability in order to fulfill all use cases. For example, in lock screen we display "no sim". On CDMA devices we need to display "no uim".

iccType in iccinfo is sufficient for cases of the card is inserted in the device. For cases the card is not inserted, for example, the string "Please, insert a SIM card to continue", we still need a build time configuration file. We need to evaluate all of the cases that display the string 'SIM' to avoid introducing unnecessary access to the configuration file. Postpone to v1.3 as comment 5.
