Thunderbird 17.0.8, 24.0 Beta 1 and latest Daily on Windows XP SP3 32 bit After adding an existing mail address (GMX) as account with POP3, the status bar reads "There are no messages for xxx@gmx.net on pop.gmx.net." Telling Thunderbird manually to get new mails works and downloads the mails. If you compare the pop3 nspr logs I attach, you will spot some differences. The main one is that the post-account creation calls SEND: QUIT and the manual call SEND: STAT. So the difference seems to be in http://mxr.mozilla.org/comm-beta/source/mailnews/local/src/nsPop3Protocol.cpp#1815 if (m_pop3ConData->verify_logon)
How about other mail accunts? (POP3 or IMAP) Or the GMX POP3 accunt only is defined as mail account? (the POP3 account is first defined mail account) If so, is othe account type defined? (nntp, RSS feed, movemail account)? Is your "automatic new mail check related setting in Server Settings" proper? (upon startup/ever NN minutes, automatically download mail, etc.) Same problem as bug 854098? (See bug 854098 comment #38) Or you are looking bug 881114? Which account is set as "Deault Account"?
(In reply to WADA from comment #3) > How about other mail accunts? (POP3 or IMAP) Gmail POP3: Same issue Gmail IMAP: Stuck at "Sending login information...". Clicking on the Inbox folder downloads the messages > Or the GMX POP3 accunt only is defined as mail account? (the POP3 account is > first defined mail account) If so, is othe account type defined? (nntp, RSS > feed, movemail account)? Issue is also present if new POP3 account added to profile with existing POP3, Feeds and NNTP account. Existing POP3 account remains default one. > Is your "automatic new mail check related setting in Server Settings" > proper? (upon startup/ever NN minutes, automatically download mail, etc.) Yes, there are all checked except "Fetch headers only". > Same problem as bug 854098? (See bug 854098 comment #38) No, option is checked here. > Or you are looking bug 881114? No, default account hasn't been removed (e.g. new profile). > Which account is set as "Deault Account"? Always the first one created.
In case I didn't express it easy understandable. After creating the account and waiting for 10 minutes (default polling interval), Thunderbird downloads the messages.
(In reply to Archaeopteryx [:aryx] from comment #5) > After creating the account and waiting for 10 minutes (default polling interval), Thunderbird downloads the messages. It's characteristics of bug 881114 : "Check new messages at startup" is skipped. "Check new message every NN minutes"(invoked by Biff) works. This "every NN minutes" starts after NN minutes from startup. (In reply to Archaeopteryx [:aryx] from comment #4) > Or you are looking bug 881114? No, default account hasn't been removed (e.g. new profile). Have you actually read bug 881114? "Defaul Account" in this context == account set in mail.accountmanager.defaultaccount (check via Tools/Options/Advanced,General, Config Editor) >> Which account is set as "Default Account"? > Always the first one created. "Account shown at top of account list of Account Manager" is not always "account set in mail.accountmanager.defaultaccount". If hidden account for Unified Folder(account intenally named smartmalboxes) is accidentally set as defaultaccount by Tb, defaultaccount is not shown at account list of Account Manager. Check actual mail.accountmanager.defaultaccount setting, please.
(In reply to Archaeopteryx [:aryx] from comment #5) > Issue is also present if new POP3 account added to profile with existing POP3, Feeds and NNTP account. See bug 880464, for problem on defaultaccount which is produced by RSS feed account creation.
(In reply to WADA from comment #6) > Have you actually read bug 881114? I read its bug summary: "When defaultaccount = Local Folders is set by Tb after default account deletion, if Local Folders doesn't have Inbox, new mail check by login_at_startup is not invoked" No account had been deleted, Inbox exists, I saw no use reading on because that didn't apply to me. > "Defaul Account" in this context == account set in > mail.accountmanager.defaultaccount > (check via Tools/Options/Advanced,General, Config Editor) For the profile which already has POP3, Feed, and NNTP, it's the POP3 account.
(how) does this relate to bug 873082?
Flags: needinfo?(archaeopteryx)
Not all, in bug 873082 something in the preferences doesn't seem to be in the format or pref id Thunderbird expects.

To bug opener: What is difference from your bug 873082? If problem like "Oddity 2: 3 accounts map to server15" existed in your prefs.js, your accunt definitions are already broken, untill such error or fault will be cleanly removed.
(In reply to WADA from comment #11) > What is difference from your bug 873082? Very simple: This bug is reproducible in every new profile.
(In reply to Archaeopteryx [:aryx] from comment #12) > (In reply to WADA from comment #11) > > What is difference from your bug 873082? > Very simple: This bug is reproducible in every new profile. If so, it should be pretty easy to provide "Steps to reproduce problem which starts from create new profile of Tb" to developers. Why such "Steps to reproduce this bug" is still not provided by you who is bug opener of this bug at bugzilla.mozilla.org where to report actual Tb bug to developers(here is never suport forum)?

(In reply to Archaeopteryx [:aryx] from comment #4) > > Or you are looking bug 881114? > No, default account hasn't been removed (e.g. new profile). The bug report has never been narrowed to specific mail providers or profiles. Actually, comment 0 is general and has the steps to reproduce (and didn't ask for support).
(In reply to Archaeopteryx [:aryx] from comment #14) > Actually, comment 0 is general and has the steps to reproduce (and > didn't ask for support). However, pretty important thing was not stated by you in this bug, even though you can find reason why accountManager.allServers is empty (your bug 873082 comment #1), wasn't it? At Server Settings, Advanced, you checked other than "Inbox for this servers account", and you didn't check "Include this server when getting new mail".
One of following? (A) At Server Settings, Advanced, you checked other than "Inbox for this servers account", and you didn't check "Include this server when getting new mail". At Server Settings, (A-1) you checked "Check for new messages on startup". (A-2) you didn't check "Check for new messages on startup". (B) At Server Settings, Advanced, you checked or kept "Inbox for this servers account", At Server Settings, (B-1) you checked "Check for new messages on startup", but you didn't check "Automatically download new messages" (if this case, periodical new mail check doesn't work too) (B-2) you didn't check "Check for new messages on startup" (because you said "there are all checked except Fetch headers only" in comment #4, I believe A-2, B-1, B-2 is not applicable to your case.)
weird. ( if (m_pop3ConData->verify_logon) is now at http://mxr.mozilla.org/comm-beta/source/mailnews/local/src/nsPop3Protocol.cpp#1825 ) And you don't have RSS account or News account is set as default account, correct? (mentioned in bug 873082)

No, just a new profile with a POP account configured and the initial message fetching after setting the account up doesn't happen.
