Since a while the application update is getting kinda annoying. More and less often I get not only one but multiple application update available dialogs shown up. This mostly happens after waking the box up from sleep mode. Those dialogs are stacking up on each other.
Haven't we decided in the past to no longer show those dialogs? Or is it due to my setting that Firefox should not apply them automatically? In any way, we should at least check that we only display at maximum a single dialog but not 5 or even more.

This is either due to the core timer sending multiple notifications at once when waking up from sleep and / or the widget not being able to find the window that was already open.
I am quite certain this is a duplicate report.

Since some month ago in Nightly I have two Update Available dialog boxes under Windows 64. It has nothing to do if the PC was in sleep mode or else.
Summary: Application update annoys with dozen of available update dialogs → Application update annoys with dozen of Update Available dialogs

That's true and I wanted to update this bug before Christmas with my latest observations. As what I can see nowadays is that all those update dialog dialogs pop-up at the same time. The number is different each time whereby it is mostly 1 dialog. I'm not sure if the number is correlated to the number of days I'm behind with my Firefox build. I will keep an eye on it.
Over 2 and a half years later, Firefox still does this (update from 48.0.1 to 48.0.2).
However, I can add more info:
This behavior also happens on Windows.
It can happen when the computer is simply left idle as well as after sleep.
This happens for initial update notifications as well as for reminders to restart after downloading an update.
While not common, there have been times when 20+ dialogs have spawned in quick succession.
