From Bugzilla Helper:

BuildID: 20010712

When selecting for example netscape.public.mozilla.wishlist, the wait to see the
messages headers currently stored locally is excruciating long. They only appear
after the news server has been scanned for new messages in the group you selected.

Local messages headers should appear first and news group headers should be
manually retrieved by selecting get messages for netscape.public.mozilla.wishlist.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Select a news group for which you are subscribed that contains messages/headers.
2. via 56k modem notice the time taken for the headers stored locally to show
while new headers are being downloaded.
3.

Actual Results: The process is way to long and time consuming. It is
un-productive especially as a news reader.

Expected Results: I expected the message headers to appear, and after that new
headers to be downloaded and blended into the header fields based on the sort
criteria for example thread or date.

I have a 56k modem. On faster conenctions the delay may not be so obvious. But
56ks aer still quite common and I hope to make mozilla my complete internet
appliance software except for instant messenging.
Unless you use Offline, we don't yet cache postings on disk. We only store in
the .msf which you've read and which you haven't. See bug 79988 for more info.

This appears to have been fixed, although my test may not have caught it properly (I delayed all outgoing packets by 10 seconds, and the local headers showed up promptly).
