User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:23.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/23.0 (Beta/Release) Build ID: 20130814063812 Steps to reproduce: Hi Guys, Thunderbird for Linux 64 bit: 24.0 Beta 1 (20130814132443) Would one of our intrepid heroes please fix this for me? Even with the option clicked on, when composing, the in line spell checker is not active. (Regular spell checker works fine.) Many thanks, -T
Similar, if not same problem under Windows with Thunderbird 24/Beta: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.2; WOW64; rv:24.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/24.0 Inline spell-checker suddenly stops working (words no longer highlighted). Stopping and starting Thunderbird fixes problem, but not for long.

I noticed the same thing. Stops working depending on how long Th has been running.
It's definitely regression in V24/Beta 2 - I re-installed Beta 1 and it works fine...
I can confirm that inline spell checking is broken with a clean install of Thunderbird 24.0 on Windows 7 64-bit. Steps to reproduce: 1. Clean install (and updated) of Windows 7 64-bit in a virtual machine 2. Install Thunderbird 24.0 3. Configure Thunderbird to connect to Gmail (IMAP) 4. Close Thunderbird -> Open Thunderbird 5. Click Write -> -> to: <email address> (use your own email address) -> subject: test -> body: tesst Inline spell checking works as expected. 6. Click Send 7. Click Reply to the message you just sent to yourself 8. Type "tesst" in the message body, inline spell checking no longer works. Notes: a. If you compose a new message, inline spell checking no longer works. b. If you click "spelling" within the compose window, it will correctly spell check the message body. 9. If you close and re-open Thunderbird, inline spell checking will work again on the first new message composed. There is another report in Bugzilla for this issue: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=919184 I'll be updating that report too.
This is a duplicate of Bug 917027. (Or maybe the other way round as this one was reported before?) I am not sure how to change its status. (I probably don't have the rights?) Cheers
I have also seen this on TB24 on OSX.
Same issue. TB 24, Windows XP 32 bits
Same issue on Ubuntu 13.10 64bit with Thunderbird 24.0 64bit. One difference here is that it seems to work when TB is started, but stops working after some time. My system is on 24x7, and TB is always open. English Dictionary here.
I just upgraded to 24.0 on Mac OS X and spell-checking does not appear to be working for me, either. I'm using ff 24.0 to post this, and if I type dfjkl it immediately gets a red underline indicating a misspelling. When doing the same thing in tb, no underlining is performed. I have confirmed that "Options > Spell Check as you Type" has been checked. I even un-checked and re-checked it just in case. Config settings containing "spell": extensions.spellcheck.inline.max-misspellings;500 spellchecker.dictionary;en-US mail.SpellCheckBeforeSend;false spellchecker.dictionaries.download.url;https://addons.mozilla.org/%LOCALE%/%APP%/dictionaries/ mail.spellcheck.inline;true I don't see any related errors in the error console.
Fixed in the new 24.0.1 release (windows)
It is fixed on OSX also; however, this bug remains, Bug 922648 - Inline spell check clears errors when it shouldn't https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=922648
Observed working properly in 24.0.1 on Mac OS X. Nice turnaround, guys!
I have 24.0.1 on Win 7 Pro 64-bit and it's not working. If there's anything I can do to help, please let me know. Spell check useless as is, have turned off.
I can confirm this bug. Version: 1:24.0+build1-0ubuntu0.12.04.1 Architecture: i386 As mentioned by Stéphane Guillou this is a duplicate and the workaround: set mail.compose.max_recycled_windows 0 fixes the problem for me.
