The error message states ...\Desktop\Slashdot:\ is not accessible. The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect. IE deals with this by removing the colon from the title before creating the shortcut file.
Confirming on 2001070708 Win2k. Over to XP Apps: Drag and Drop.

Completely and utterly hosed here, Windows NT 4.0, SP6a, IE4 Shell and build 2001071604.
It appears that all forms of DnD Moz <-> Explorer/IE is hosed. It is here on NT4 anyway
See also bug 91328, "URL Drag/Drop does not function correctly". Which dragging actions have regressed recently, and which have been broken for a while?
May I suggest making this bug specific to the colon problem and adding it to the summary? PS: Mozilla > NS4 is also hosed, see bug 71786
I'd suggest a summary: Cannot drag page with special characters in its title to desktop Focusing only on colon would lead to a number of similar bug reports with the same root cause, which is a title that is not directly usable as a filename. Already slash (/) and backslash (\) have been mentioned in addition to colon (:). To resolve this bug: 1. Find out which are all the problematic special characters (platform dependent) 2. How to handle them (drop, replace with placeholders or similar character, ...)
