User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:23.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/23.0 (Beta/Release) Build ID: 20130814063812 Steps to reproduce: In Mac OSX 10.6 or higher thunderbird 17.0.8 opens attachements and SAVE them at the same time, no matter if you choose 'open' or 'save'. It's not possible to open the attachement only. More openings causes more savings of the attachement. Expected results: If I choose OPEN attachemnet, I just want to open it. I only want to save an attachement if I choose SAVE.

Actual result: - when "Open" is used, TB saves attachment as a file with following full file path: #### - when "Open" is used again on same attachment, TB saves another file with this full file path: #### Expected result: ...

Summary: attachements → Opening attachments should not save them to hard disk as files (and avoid saving multiple copies when opening same attachment many times)

Is there a practical alternative?

I think this bug is complaining about the mac specific behavior around opening files.
Bug 1737711 resolved that too I believe.
