With the latest Nightly (build ID: 20130918030202) on Win 8 32-bit:

STR
1. On a clean Windows 8 machine (remove all previous Firefox installations) install Firefox 24 from www.mozilla.com (Firefox is automatically set as default browser)
2. Go to nightly.mozilla.org and download an installer
3. Run the installer and at the end make Nightly your default browser when prompted by the browser, when you open Nightly for the first time

Actual results: after step 3, Nightly should be the default browser in desktop mode, and a Metro icon should be visible on the Windows Start Page

Expected results: after step 3, Nightly is the default browser in desktop mode, but there isn't no Metro icon on the Start Page. I have to go to Control Panel -> Default Programs and manually set Nightly as the default browser, and only afterwards I can see the Metro icon on the Start Page

Is this 32bit only? It's strange because it seems like an icon problem but Nightly and Firefox have different icon names.

With Win 8 64-bit everything works as expected. At step 1, I'm even prompted by the browser to make Firefox my default browser.
Is it always reproducible on x86 or is it an intermittent problem?
Summary: Defect - If a different Firefox installation exists, when making Nightly the default browser, there is no Metro icon in the Start Page → Defect - If a different Firefox installation exists, making Nightly the default browser has no Metro icon on the Start Page (x86 only)

It seems that the problem is intermittent. I've tried 2 more times, and everything worked smoothly (At step 1, I even got prompted by the browser to make Firefox my default browser)

not blocking, cosmetic, but we'd take a fix.
