Tested on 2013-09-30 using the latest nightly and the latest Aurora builds for Metro. I have not been able to reproduce this by trying to open several types of documents (ctrl-o) stored in my machine, including images, text files, and pdf files, while having a few sites open already. I haven't noticed problems in responsiveness.
I also tried the desktop versions, and I haven't seen the responsiveness degradation described.
Reporter, did you open any specific types of documents or sites?
