User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:24.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/24.0 (Beta/Release) Build ID: 20130910160258 Steps to reproduce: add an IMAP account and send a test message from another email program; ensure that Thunderbird is minimized or in the system tray. Actual results: No email notification popup are displayed Expected results: a new email alert popup should have been displayed
(In reply to Massimo from comment #0) > Bug summary : email notifications not working with Gmail imap account > Actual results: > No email notification popup are displayed >(why no string of "Gmail IMAP" in comment #0...) When did your problem start to occur? After upgrade to Tb 24 from Tb 17? How about other "new mail indicator"? - Unread mail count at folder pane - Blue/highligten folder name at folder pane - "New icon"(red star) in folder icon at folder pane - "New icon" before Subject at Thread pane Dup of Bug 885220? > ensure that Thunderbird is minimized or in the system tray. Does it mean that no problem occurs if Tb is not minimized?
I am aware of - Unread mail count at folder pane - Blue/highligten folder name at folder pane - "New icon"(red star) in folder icon at folder pane - "New icon" before Subject at Thread pane but the problem is when is minimized; so please tell me: how I am going to see all your fantastic notifications options when Thunderbird is minimized? the workaround I found while waiting for your helpful answer is to go into Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Config Editor and enter use_condstore into the search filter and toggle all preferences that remain to false. After doing this notifications are working again also when the app is minimized. My point is that rather than having users to find the workaround on google, maybe you guys can fix it in the following release? Thanks
(In reply to Massimo from comment #2) > but the problem is when is minimized; so please tell me: > how I am going to see all your fantastic notifications options when Thunderbird is minimized? Question is to know "minimized Tb detected and fetched new mails, but no new mail popup alert" or "new mails is not detected/fetched while minimized, then no new mail popup alert". So, needless to say, when problem occurred with minimized even though Tb should detect new mails, "check status in Tb by returning non-minimized window state" is needed. If use_condstore=false was effective workaround in your case too, your problem is perhaps same problem as Bug 885220. However, if dup of that bug, "no new mail popup alert even when Tb should detect/fetch new mails" should occur even when Tb is not minimized. What is reason why you repeatedly emphasize "Tb was minimized in your case"? Your case is problem only when Tb is minimized? Or it's merely that you saw your problem with Tb minimized, because you usually minimize Tb? Question again. Is you problem issue only when Tb is minimized and no problem if Tb is not minimized? Even if the "fantastic notifications" is observed when Tb is changed back to non-minimized from minimized, it's never sure evidence of that Tb surely detected/fetched new mails while Tb is minimized. It's evidence of that following is surely ruled out; - While Tb is minimized, Tb doesn't detect new mail, and even after changed to non-minimized, Tb doesn't detect new mails. There is still probability of "Tb detected/fetched new mails upon changing back to non-minimized", even if probability of "Tb detected/fetched new mails while minimized" surely increases by it. I can't think "problem only when Tb is minimized", because use_condstore=false is effective workaround in your case too. Closing as dup of bug 885220. If duping is wrong, please re-open with attaching required data for problem analysis by developers. > My point is that rather than having users to find the workaround on google, > maybe you guys can fix it in the following release? You can't see following in bug 885220? > tracking-thunderbird24: + → --- > tracking-thunderbird-esr24: --- → 26+ This means: Developers gave up fix of that bug in Tb 24.0(.0). Developers want bug fixed in Tb 24-esr which will be Tb 24.0.x or Tb 24.x.y where x>=1. So, following field is set in that bug. > Tracking Flags: > tracking-thunderbird-esr24: 26+

wooowww I was unaware of your philosophical skills!! Great piece of literature >>minimized Tb detected and fetched new mails, but no newmail popup alert you nailed it !! Question again. Is you problem issue only when Tb is minimized and no problem if Tb is not minimized? Answer again: Yes now my question: Will this be solved as seems to be an issue of which people are referring on Google since a long time or we , the poor and idiotic users, have to deal over and over again by finding workaround on Internet? Apologies for my poor English Mr Professor, but I am Italian. Please do not reply with an entire chapter.. just let me know if this issue will be solved or not. At the end of the day I have found my workaround. Thanks
