From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win95; en-US; rv:0.9.2+) Gecko/20010724 BuildID: 2001072403 In the most recent Win32 build and all builds before it, when starting Mail with the "Check for new mail at startup" option UNCHECKED in the Mail/News Account Settings > Server Settings (for a POP account) the Mail app, by default, selects (highlights) the (mail Account Name, topmost) folder while the GET MSG button on the toolbar is disabled. In order for a user to check mail, they must select (highlight) the Inbox (or any other mail folder) for the Get Msg button to be available to them. This is very annoying behavior and could be an easy fix. On a side note, this "bug" also shows up with the "Check for mail at startup" option _checked_, however to reproduce it requires the user to click anywhere outside of the main message window while the Inbox is highlighted, THEN clicking on the (mail Account Name) folder immediately afterwards. Access to the toolbar button is gone. This is more of an annoyance than a bug, but should be checked out, as inexperienced users will get confused and wonder why they cannot access the toolbar button (or check their mail). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start Mozilla Mail (any recent build, Win32, maybe others). 2. Click Edit -> Mail/News Account Settings -> Server Settings. 3. UNCHECK "Check for new mail at startup" option. 4. Click OK, then File -> Exit. Restart Mail. 5. GET MSG toolbar button is greyed-out (disabled). Actual Results: GET MSG button on toolbar is not available until user selects a subfolder of a top-level folder. Expected Results: GET MSG should ALWAYS be available to users, regardless of what folder is open or highlighted. This happens using the Modern Theme (have not checked Classic yet). Running on Win95, 550MHz AMD, 128 PC100, No trace of IE (clean install).

Confirming: Ok to sum up the comments. 1. "Get Msg" button doesn't work when server name is highlighted. 2. If you select server name the Get Msg button appears available, but if you click in the message window (assume you have a folder selected of course) and then click on the server name it is grayed out, this is definatly a bug. 3. Testing for this bug caused me to find another bug, that there is no scroll bar in the Mozilla Mail frame when a server name is highlighted. Will file as seperate bug.
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true
This is exactly what I'm reporting. The user can click anywhere WITHIN (not "outside" as I erroneously reported) the main message pane of their Inbox, and then on the Server Name and the bug shows its head. The "Get Msg" button loses its functionality when a user follows this click path, which would certainly be quite often with a mail client.

Possibly a duplicate of bug 93418
*** Bug 93418 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
Moving from 0.9.3
From bug 93418 ------- Additional Comments From jglick@netscape.com 2001-08-08 11:57 ------- There is no visual feedback that new messages have been retrieved since Acct Central instead of the Thread pane is being displayed, but I don't think there is any reason why "Get Msg" shouldn't work if Acct Level is selected.
It might make more sense to keep bug 93418 and dump this one. Bug 93418 covered the menu item and toolbar button, while this one just covers the toolbar button. Also, bug 93418 has target milestone 0.9.6 while this one has no target milestone. In any case, the platform and OS should be "All" for whatever bug stays in the databse.
Change the summary to reflect both menu items, toolbar button should be enabled when the account is selected. Also setting the milestone because the dup bug was triaged for 0.9.6

This bug might have been fixed in the earlier builds. But looks like there might have been some regression that has caused this bug to reappear on 2001-11-09-06 builds on all platforms. I am reopening this bug. If you want me to verify this taking a older trunk build and log a new bug again let me know. But the problem is still the same might be a different regression that might have caused the same behavior.
