Steps to reproduce:

I was looking for a URL that I visited few hours ago.

I opened the library window using History->Show all history and chose Today.

I got a long list of URL's, which was sorted by time, and I intended to check some of them one by one

I clicked the first link that I thought might be the one I am looking for. I used the middle mouse button to open this URL in a new tab.


Actual results:

Once I clicked a URL, the history list scrolled up to the first item in the list (the last visited), which made it for me very difficult to scroll back down to check the next URL that looked suitable for me.


Expected results:

The history list should NOT scroll up (or down) when clicking a URL.

I would classify this bug as "very annoying".

Because Firefox refreshes the history list when you click on an old entry (which becomes the latest visited entry).

It is a "bug with a reason", but still a bug.

The problem can be solved in few ways, such as:

1. The list can be refreshed, without scrolling up.

2. NOT to refresh the list, unless the user clicks "refresh".

Either solution is fine, and much better than the current situation.

This is not an enhancement, this is a bug, and quite an annoying one.

In many cases, this bug makes the history/library list a bit useless because there is no way to check older URL's one by one. You can try it by yourself and see what happens.

For the scroll position to not change, you would need to set the list to sort by date added

Almost 2 years later ... .

I love the newbies & members of the firefox team who either pretend it's an enhancement??????
when that behavior was introduced by Firefox Setup 22.0b4.exe & never existed before NOR with
other browsers .... . & wayne who pretends only sorting by date prevents the issue when that ****
never existed in any sorting mode before & was introduced by their coding skills while refusing to fix it cause it would become more complex to care about an important introduced "BUG". 

Loic is also a young joker, pretending that it's caused by the fact firefox refreshes the history list,
SINCE WHEN IN ANY WORLD'S BROWER SINCE THE CREATION OF THE INTERNET HISTORY MENUS WERE REFRESHED TO THE POINT OF LOSING FOCUS ? IT'S A FREAKING MENU! NOT A WEBPAGE RENDERING WINDOW!

So if you guys decided to add newly clicked history links to the top, don't freaking disturb user's
experience by sending them to the top losing the menu's focus, that's infantile. in that case create  script to auto scroll down a little as newly rebrowsed urls are readded to the top of the history list,
or wait till the author closes the stupid history menu AS IT'S ALWAYS BEEN DONE, for firefox to reload the actual history, nobody needs to scroll to top to review a link they clicked in the stupid history menu since it's BLOODY RENDERED & accessible through the forward-backward function, or Reopening the menu.
