this allows easy developer testing with ongoing known-dangerous dogfooding, somewhat akin to dogfooding inbound on desktop builds.

this will ease developers' daily use of the unstable code, and surface migration and backwards compatibility issues early.
The solution will need to be compatible with automation too, for example take an arg that skips the "wipe data?" confirmation.

Note that if you dogfood with OTA updates, we don't clear user data. I did months of 1.1 dogfooding like that, never lost my data.
But then there are cases where OTA fails and you need to re-flash.
Or you want to be dogfooding on 1.2 or 1.3 :)
