I think part of this is creating an environment that is set up to proactively defend itself from performance/quality/stability degradation. Eg:

* tryservers for all kinds of tests, on a few different devices/platforms

* automated on-checkin execution of all kinds of tests, on a few different devices/platforms

* tools for running each individual type of test (and individual tests) locally for development and for reproduction of problems
