8.1 is out today, we should consider upgrading. There are a number of new features as well as changes under the hood, particular for the metro browser. Since 8.1 is a free upgrade, and 8.0 will get pulled from the shelves, I'd say 8.0 is essentially obsolete. Therefore we should be testing on 8.1. overview - http://gizmodo.com/windows-8-1-review-little-changes-make-a-big-differenc-1446625571 Note we have a boot to desktop option now, so we can get rid of that ugly "open a folder hack" we have in 8.0.

Armen, can you assist in getting this inserted into the releng roadmap? The 8.0 install base is falling off as people install the free upgrade. Pretty soon we'll be testing on an os nobody is using, and not testing the os people are using. :)

I filed the bug for RelOps to look into it. It seems that Windows 8.1 will pass Windows 8 sometime in Q1/Q2: http://www.netmarketshare.com/downloads/guest635254853416930000.pdf Would it be fine if we don't work on this before Q2? I assume there is going to be a lot of craziness going on this quarter in preparation for the SCL1 to SCL3. From my personal experience, Microsoft has done quite a bad job at making people update. It requires users that constantly update until they reach the point where 8.1 will be offered (not anytime before). On top of that, they offer it through the Microsoft Store instead of regular updates UI!! (personal rant)

We'll bypass 8.1 and go straight to 10.
