Description: The user cannot send or receive a MMS when using a roaming sim. Repro Steps: 1) Updated Buri to Build ID: 20131103004003 2) Insert a roaming sim into thte test device from another country. For test purposes we are using a sim from Taiwan in the US. 3) Tap on the "Settings" icon. 4) Tap on "Cellular & Data". 5) Turn on "Data roaming". 6) From another device send the test phone a MMS. 7) Try to download the MMS on the test phone. 8) Try to send a MMS to another device from the test phone. Actual: The notification of a MMS is received but the MMS cannot be downloaded. An infinite spinner will occur. Expected: The MMS is downloaded without issue. Environmental Variables Device: Buri v 1.2.0 Mozilla RIL Build ID: 20131103004003 Gecko: http://hg.mozilla.org/releases/mozilla-b2g26_v1_2/rev/eec4da1b27eb Gaia: cb981e2f47bc644b4d178d54378c3676c946facf Platform Version: 26.0 Notes: Repro frequency: 100% Link to failed test case: https://moztrap.mozilla.org/runtests/run/2528/env/347/?&pagenumber=1&pagesize=100&sortfield=order&sortdirection=asc&filter-id=8253&filter-id=8252&filter-id=8251&filter-id=8250&filter-id=8249&filter-id=8248&filter-id=8247&filter-id=8246&filter-id=8245&filter-id=8257&filter-id=8258&filter-id=8259&filter-suite=259 See attached: logcat
Can you please tell the difference between this bug and bug 935270?
Component: Gaia::SMS → RIL
Flags: needinfo?(ktucker)
bug 935270 has to do with the setting auto-retrieve not auto downloading the message. The user is prompted to manually tap download to try and receive the MMS. This issue has to do with the fact that when a user tries to send or download a MMS the message, there is always an infinite spinner. The MMS is never sent or downloaded successfully.

Vicamo - Are we supposed to support sending of MMS when using roaming SIMs? Is this feature only supported by certain carriers? Trying to figure out what the problem is that's preventing testing in the US of MMS with roaming SIMs.

Here is a screenshot of what I get when I followed the same steps - when I try to download I get the spinner.

Yes, we should support receiving and sending MMS while roaming. Just to make sure data roaming is enabled. I don't think there is any MMS roaming limitation in US. What's SIM operator for this bug? Hi Paul, please correct me if I was wrong.

I just flashed the same build on buri and can't reproduce. Use a T-mobile sim card as recipient, and send MMS from a Taiwan number Following are my STR: In settings/Cellular 1. Make sure data connection is enabled 2. Check if Data roaming is enabled In settings/message 3. Check if Auto-retrieve is "On with roaming" Go to message app 4. Send an MMS image message from Taiwan phone number to T-mobile(roaming) If the data connection is not enabled, data roaming can be enabled but can't get the attachment. Currently we don't have quick solution and simply wait for timeout, that means, 30 minutes and then you will see attachment download fail. Another possible reason is the signal is not well and cause device to retry. Need more info/for US environment.

Reporter, could you please retest with a current build, and maybe give more information about your environment if you can still reproduce? Thanks!

(In reply to Julien Wajsberg [:julienw] from comment #8) > Reporter, could you please retest with a current build, and maybe give more > information about your environment if you can still reproduce? Thanks! I believe Taiwan SIMs are being used in a Roaming environment in the US on the latest 1.2 & 1.1 setup. This isn't going to be affected by testing on a newer build, as this is reproducing on 1.1. It's more likely a SIM-specific issue with using Taiwan SIMs with roaming enabled in the US.
I'm asking because I know the Gecko engineers fixed a bunch of error-related issues recently.
This issue still reproduces on the latest Buri v 1.2.0 COM RIL Environmental Variables Device: Buri v 1.2.0 COM RIL Build ID: 20131120004000 Gecko: http://hg.mozilla.org/releases/mozilla-b2g26_v1_2/rev/2d454e0de2ed Gaia: 5ec2963fff60492c840707df8d8090f9908a5251 Platform Version: 26.0 RIL Version: 01.02.00.019.102 The phone with the Taiwan SIM will get a new MMS notification and when they try to download it, an infinite spinner will be shown by the message. The file is never actually downloaded.

FYI I know this happens on Android phones too (happened with a french SIM from SFR when in Turkey). So it probably is network related and not a bug in Firefox OS.
Hi, Can you help to apply the attached script and re-capture |adb logcat -v threadtime| with MOZ-RIL build in m-c branch for further analysis? Thanks & regards, Bevis Tseng

I ran the enable_ril_mms_debug.sh script and captured the 'adb logcat -v threadtime' to the attached text file. 1.5 Environmental Variables: Device: Buri 1.5 MOZ BuildID: 20140415040201 Gaia: 553da99ab09b6b894d9f95bb06b16b6e1ddbf0a1 Gecko: 5b6e82e7bbbf Version: 31.0a1 The device was not able to send or receive an MMS while using a roaming SIM.

Thanks for capturing the log. From the log, it's obviously that the MMS APN (emome) cannot be established that cause MmsService timeout to send/retrieve a MMS message. Can we compare the behavior in other reference phone with this same SIM card? I ran the enable_ril_mms_debug.sh script and captured the 'adb logcat -v threadtime' to the attached text file. This was done on a different Buri than the first logcat. 1.5 Environmental Variables: Device: Buri 1.5 MOZ BuildID: 20140417040206 Gaia: dadf0e60a6421f5b57ee9fc536c6617212805c19 Gecko: c55dfb01a027 Version: 31.0a1 Firmware Version: v1.2-device.cfg Unable to send or receive MMS using a roaming SIM.

Oh, there must be some misunderstanding. What I'd like to check is how this SIM behaves in other reference phone like iPhone, Android Phone. Because, I think is shall be network/sim-related issues instead but would like to double confirm it by checking the behaviors in other phones not running FFOS. :) Bevis

I was able to reproduce this issue on a different device using the same SIM: Unable to send or receive an MMS using our SIM from Taiwain in the US on a Samsung Galaxy S2.

It's likely a network issue then. Thanks !
