Steps to reproduce:
Hi, first off I want to say I really LIKE Thunderbird!! I have been using it for MANY years now since netscape died. I have noticed in the last few upgrades (ver 24xx) that when I click on "get mail" it seems to take forever for that mail to be downloaded. Even simple text can take a minute or so. I know its not a long time but it use to take seconds. Also, when this happens it says on top "not responding" then it clears up and the messages come in, slowly. I also have a hotmail account that I use from time to time, not thru thunderbird and there is no delay with that.
Again, I think it is something in versions 24 xxx. Has something major changed that can cause this problem?? ALSO, when the e-mails comes in there is a box on the lower right showing all the e-mail that has arrived. This now stays there way to long and you need to "X" it out. . Any way to shorten this like it use to be??
THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!! I can be contacted via LIAC1@optonline.net
Actual results:
please see above
Expected results:
I feel e-mails should download much faster like it use to.
Box on lower right showing e-mails that have been downloaded should be there then fade away. It use to be quick but now I need to "x" it off. These issues are not earth shattering but it use to be much better.
Thanks for your help!

Start in *Windows'* safe mode with networking enabled
- win7 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Start-your-computer-in-safe-mode
Then still in windows safe mode, start thunderbird in safe mode
- http://support.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/kb/safe-mode ?
Is there noticeable improvement?
