Fact 1: the tethering consumes a lot of battery. Face 2: it's too easy to forget to disable it once it's not useful anymore. Therefore, I think it could be a good idea to automatically disable it if nobody connects on the tethering after n minutes. (say, n = 2 or n = 5). NI UX team so that they can say whether it's a good idea.

Flagging Bruce to see if he wants to consider this for the 1.4 System Platform backlog.

We've actually discussed this recently, but need to define whether the timeout is based on connections or data transfer. Sending over to Ravi.

I think Vincent is working on this.

I am working on Bug 774582 and would like to provide a DOM API to notify the number of connected station, once that bug is done, the gaia app can use the API to detect if hotspot is idle for a while and turn off the hotspot automatically. I would like to have the input from gaia and see if this work for them.

However, I forget to mention we are now trying to move away device on/off switches from Settings database. So it would be better if the following two keys can be moved away from mozSettings and becoming it's own DOM API method. tethering.usb.enabled tethering.wifi.enabled wifi.enabled etc. (It is proven that these toggles results a lot of race condition when user quickly toggles it)
