Would like to see typing notification in the windows taskbar, which would also  show which contact is typing.  
Would also like to see it at the top of at the top of the conversation window, as opposed to ONLY the bottom,  because I think that bottom area should be option, it that it can be removed by a user, thus freeing up more real estate, plus give the message window a more sleek or minimal look.

This would probably be a good use of the overlay icons in the taskbar.  You don't want it blinking and asking for your attention, but a small icon (perhaps that cycles through ".", "..", "...") would certainly be useful (especially in Windows 7).

Closing bugs related to the Instantbird UI as WONTFIX, as the development of the standalone chat client Instantbird has stopped. Instantbird users are encouraged to migrate to Thunderbird. The user interface of instant messaging in Thunderbird will feel familiar, as the Thunderbird IM support started as a fork of Instantbird.
